The University City Science Center accelerates technology commercialization, regional economic development, and the market availability of life-enhancing scientific breakthroughs by bringing together innovations, scientists, entrepreneurs, funding, laboratory facilities, and business services.  It provides services that range from incubator space with fully-equipped laboratories and “plug ‘n play” offices for entrepreneurs to path-breaking programs designed to demonstrate, nurture, and sustain new technology businesses and bring their benefits to the region and the world.

FIRM PROFILE

Established in 1963 and headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, the Science Center was the first, and remains the largest, urban research park in the United States. 

Throughout its 46-year history, the Science Center’s reach and influence has increased significantly. The Science Center now encompasses 17 acres, 15 buildings, and two million square feet within a four-block area that is home to 100 companies employing 8,000 people.

The Science Center has been instrumental in starting nearly 350 companies such as Neose Technologies, SEI, Centocor, Bentley Systems, 3-D Pharmaceuticals, and Morphotek. The companies that got their start at the Science Center’s Port business incubator have created more than 16,000 jobs. 449 patents have been granted to Science Center current and graduate companies.  

The Science Center has helped build technology parks around the world, including Kyoto, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Oxford, England; and Bangkok, Thailand.
